ANMC Attends Inauguration of Nepali Consulate Office in Melbourne

The Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre (ANMC) attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Consulate Office of Nepal in Glenroy, Melbourne, on the 16th of March 2025. The event marked a significant milestone for the Nepali diaspora in Victoria, offering improved access and diplomatic representation in a convenient location.

The inauguration was conducted by Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Nepal, Chitra Lekha Yadav, who also led a special flag-raising ceremony. During this event, the Ambassador raised the Nepali flag, while Kathleen Matthews-Ward raised the Australian flag, symbolising the friendship and collaboration between Nepal and Australia.

ANMC President Dr Tilak Pokharel, a few ANMC patrons, ANMC team members, and several community leaders attended the event. The strong turnout highlighted the organisation’s commitment to engaging proactively with diplomatic initiatives beneficial to the Nepali community.

During the ceremony, Dr Pokharel delivered a congratulatory speech recognising the importance of the consulate’s role in uniting the Nepali community. He emphasised the necessity for a unified voice when representing Nepal on broader platforms, including political leadership and community advocacy.

Dr Pokharel acknowledged the tireless efforts of various community organisations but stressed the need for greater collaboration and strategic thinking focused on long-term community interests. He advocated for ANMC’s potential to act as a central representative body for addressing collective issues faced by the Nepalese diaspora in Victoria.

Further, Dr Pokharel called on the newly inaugurated consulate to facilitate or even lead initiatives aimed at fostering unity, collaboration, and a cohesive representation of Nepali community interests. His remarks highlighted ANMC’s readiness to actively participate and support the consulate in achieving these objectives.

ANMC congratulates the consulate on this significant achievement and looks forward to continued partnership for the betterment of the Nepali community in Victoria.
