Buddha Jayanti 2025 Celebrated at ANMC with Unity and Reflection

On Sunday, 18 May 2025, the Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre (ANMC) hosted a peaceful and meaningful Buddha Jayanti celebration at its Diggers Rest premises. The event marked the birth, enlightenment, and Parinirvana of Lord Gautam Buddha, born in Lumbini, Nepal — a figure revered across the world as the Light of Peace.

This year’s celebration was a collaborative effort between ANMC, Tamang Society of Victoria, and Sherpa Association of Victoria, with strong support from ChildVerse, Lumbini-Kapilvastu Day Movement, Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV), and NRNA Victoria.

The program welcomed members of Melbourne’s Buddhist, Nepali, and multicultural communities to take part in an afternoon filled with spiritual practice, cultural pride, and reflection.

Highlights of the Celebration:

  • Buddha Puja: A prayer session to honour Buddha’s teachings and path of compassion
  • Tseme (Sacred Flame) Lighting: Symbolising wisdom and the spreading of peace
  • Prayer Flags Hoisting (Lungdar Tabpa): Sharing blessings of compassion and hope
  • Prasad Distribution (Tshok Pulpa): Offering of sacred food to attendees
  • Vegetarian Bhojan: A shared meal, promoting peace and non-violence
  • Children’s Mindfulness Activities: Organised by ChildVerse, young participants engaged in journaling, breathing exercises, and reflection activities to learn about peace and inner calm in age-appropriate ways

The presence of different community organisations and volunteers reflected the values of Buddha’s teachings, cooperation, tolerance, and harmony. The event also served as a reminder of the shared cultural and spiritual heritage among many of Victoria’s communities.

ANMC thanks all the organisers, supporting organisations, and volunteers who made the event successful and peaceful. We look forward to building on this spirit of collaboration in future events that promote unity, culture, and mindfulness.
