Federal Election Commitment Boosts ANMC’s Future Facilities

Australian Nepalese Multicultural Center (ANMC) to receive $385,000 funding if Labor Government is re-elected

The Australian Nepalese Multicultural Center (ANMC) has welcomed a major election commitment from the Federal Member for Hawke, Sam Rae MP. During his visit to ANMC in Diggers Rest on 13 April 2025, Mr Rae announced that a re-elected Federal Labor Government will invest $385,000 in the development of key infrastructure at the centre.

This funding will be used to build:

  • A fully equipped commercial kitchen
  • A cool room to support food storage during large events
  • A dedicated dining area to accommodate community gatherings

These new facilities will help ANMC expand its ability to host large-scale cultural, religious and social events – strengthening its role as a central hub for the Nepalese community and beyond.

Sam Rae has been a strong supporter of ANMC and the local Nepalese community. This was not his first visit. Over the years, he has seen the centre’s transformation from a small space to a vibrant venue for multicultural exchange and celebration.

Speaking at the event, Sam Rae MP said:

“This is a fantastic investment in our vibrant Nepalese community here in Hawke.
This will ensure they have the facilities needed to celebrate and share their rich culture.
Only a Federal Labor Government can be trusted to continue delivering for our local multicultural community.”

ANMC President Dr Tilak Pokharel welcomed the announcement with appreciation and optimism. He highlighted the significance of this funding for the long-term sustainability of the centre.

“We are thankful to Sam Rae MP and the Federal Labor team for recognising the hard work of our volunteers and community members.
This commitment will help us create the infrastructure we need to serve the growing Nepalese community in Melbourne.
It’s a step towards deeper collaboration between the Nepali community and the Australian Government.”

Once delivered, these upgrades will allow ANMC to:

  • Host larger and more inclusive festivals and community celebrations
  • Offer better catering and dining facilities during events
  • Ensure food safety, storage and service at a professional standard

ANMC thanks all community members, volunteers and leaders who continue to contribute to its growth. This announcement is a recognition of that collective effort.

We look forward to the opportunities this funding will unlock for our current community and future generations.
