New Leadership Takes Charge at Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre

The Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre (ANMC), based in Victoria, Australia, has officially welcomed its new leadership. Dr. Tilak Pokharel assumed the role of President, succeeding outgoing President Gandhi Bhattarai, during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Sunday, the 23rd of February 2025. The AGM, hosted in a hybrid format, took place within the premises of the multicultural center itself.

During the meeting, reports from both the President and Treasurer were reviewed and approved by attendees. Significant resolutions were also passed, including a new requirement mandating that future presidential candidates must have previously served at least one term on the executive committee. Additionally, it was decided that the executive committee could appoint four nominated members. Former Presidents Dr Chandradipak Pokharel and Rajesh Acharya were also present at the AGM.

In his inaugural speech, President Dr. Tilak Pokharel committed to completing ongoing construction projects, initiating the construction of a new community hall, enhancing transparency within the organization, and fostering stronger collaboration with government entities. He emphasized that achieving the strategic goals of the Centre would involve extensive consultation and guidance from the community.

Joining President Pokharel on the new executive committee are Vice Presidents Keshav Kandel and Prabha Shrestha, Secretary Sudhir Shakya, Joint Secretary Deepak Acharya, Treasurer Arjun Dhakal, and Assistant Treasurer Manisha Aryal. Members elected to the committee include Evan Subedi, Parshuram Sharma Luitel, Prem Kandel, Prince Bhandari, Ruby Thapa Magar, and Sabita Adhikari.

The AGM concluded with President Pokharel expressing gratitude to outgoing President Gandhi Bhattarai, presenting him with a token of appreciation for his dedicated service. Additionally, former President Dr. Chandradipak Pokharel symbolically handed over soil from Lumbini to President Dr. Tilak Pokharel, marking the continuity and symbolic transfer of leadership.
