Minister for Multicultural Affairs Visits ANMC on Indra Jatra

Today was a historic day for the Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre (ANMC) as we welcomed Hon. Ingrid Stitt, Minister for Multicultural Affairs, along with local MPs Josh Bull and Kathleen Matthews-Ward, to our centre in Diggers Rest.

The Minister, together with Josh and Kathleen, joined us for a special meeting before the Indra Jatra celebration. ANMC President Dr. Tilak Pokharel presented the achievements of ANMC and outlined the proposal for the ANMC Multicultural Hall Project. Minister Stitt praised the dedication of the Nepali community and expressed her commitment, along with the government’s, to supporting ANMC’s work. Josh Bull acknowledged ANMC’s significant contribution to his electorate and committed to assisting the Multicultural Hall project. Kathleen Matthews-Ward also expressed her support and confirmed that she would work closely with the Minister and Josh to progress the proposal.

We sincerely thank Hon. Consul Nirajan Gauli for facilitating this important meeting.

Later, during the vibrant Indra Jatra celebration, we were honoured to welcome Deputy Opposition Leader and Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs Evan Mulholland and Steve McGhie MP. Their encouragement and recognition of ANMC’s work and the Nepali community’s contribution were deeply appreciated.

ANMC extends heartfelt thanks to Newa Guthi Melbourne for their tireless efforts and collaboration in organising Indra Jatra, which brought together thousands of community members to celebrate culture, tradition, and togetherness.

This day marks a milestone for ANMC and strengthens our resolve to build the Multicultural Hall as a landmark for all communities in Victoria.
